8 Things to do to Get Noticed during Casting Call

The First Step to Modelling
Every top model had that one moment where it all began. For you, this could be it. So before putting your best foot forward, you have to know a few tips to wow the room. At Promodel Service, casting with Melanie Dmello is more than an audition; it’s the moment your potential becomes a powerful professional presence. We’ve helped countless fresh faces capture the attention of luxury brands, and we know exactly what turns heads in the industry. Follow these essential tips, and you won’t just show up to casting, you’ll own the frame.
1. Seize the opportunity:
It is not often that we do casting. If you are called, remember you are one of the select few from the hundreds of candidates who applied. We always get feedback that it takes too long to be invited for a casting. This is because we take an hour for each casting to understand everything about you in order to ensure we are sending you to the right clients. When the opportunity allows, our photographer gives tips and guidance on posing and literally putting your best foot forward.
2. Treat it like an interview:
Arrive 10 minutes before your casting. Time is everything in our industry; professionals are paid by the hour and every minute counts. If you arrive late or cancel at the last minute, it reflects your professionalism. Generally, models who are unresponsive or who cancel frequently without prior notice are not invited back for future projects. So make sure this is the right time for you and that you’re in the right headspace to pursue modelling as a profession. If it isn’t, let the team know in advance and provide a timeline or a specific time slot to call you back.
3. Follow up:
If you haven’t heard from us, don’t hesitate to follow up. Your initiative shows enthusiasm, and it may move you higher on our casting invite list. In some cases, we might let you know that we don’t currently have opportunities for your category. Either way, you’ll gain clarity and can plan your next steps with confidence.
4. Show up like you mean it:
Come camera ready! The team will guide you with the required attire, footwear and other necessary accessories. We usually request two changes, come ready in the first outfit. Wear something you are comfortable in, refrain from buying a new outfit. Ideally, it’s something that has a flattering yet fitted look on you.
5. Keep it simple, and elegant:
Don’t go over the top for casting. We want you to show up looking your best, but still looking natural as this is the way we expect you to show up for future jobs with us. So we don’t expect you to go to a salon to do your hair, but do it the best you can at home. Definitely have your nails done, ideally short and nude is the best- this is what all clients for jewelry, lifestyle and food and beverage clients ask for.
6. Preplan your poses:
Preparation is your secret weapon. Preplan 15 poses for full length body shots and 15 poses for close up jewelry shots. This will help show your interest and professionalism and ready to deliver attitude during casting. If you are unsure, let us know and we can send you a short reference for you to work with.
7. Carry your kit:
Carry your makeup for short touch ups. Carry a simple hair tie and comb for a second hairstyle. Carry a spray or hair gel for those baby hairs we love but makes the final look unkempt. Carry high heels, ideally a pair with clean soles but remember that you’ll need to pose in them and you need to be comfortable wearing them. A lot of studios use paper/ cloth backdrops that can easily stain. Casting crews appreciate your efforts to help them keep the set clean and intact for the next candidates.
8. Roll the dice and Have Fun:
Lastly, know that not every casting call might not be “your calling”. There are chances that you may or may not be the best fit for the brand and its story board. Take the feedback and work on it. Always make it an opportunity to meet people, gain more insights and have fun. Even if you are not selected for upcoming projects, you will be in our database and ready to be considered for a project that is looking for someone that fits your description.
